Open Home Checklist: the Signs an Agent Needs per Listing, with Costs

One listing usually needs four kinds of sign: a for sale board on the front fence, six to ten directional signs from the main road, an A-frame on the footpath on the day, and a banner if there is an auction. With us, five 600 x 900mm corflute boards cost $101, ten 450 x 600mm directional signs cost $100, an A1 corflute A-frame costs $88 and a 2 x 1m PVC banner costs $85. Our Open Home Sign Kit has all four for $487 delivered to Brisbane 4000.

Every price on this page comes live from our price engine, so it changes here when our prices change. We are not registered for GST, so no GST is charged: the price shown is the total you pay. Signs are delivered by courier and priced by your postcode in the basket.

The open home sign checklist

Before the listing goes live

  • A for sale board for the front fence, usually 600 x 900mm, with the agency, the agent and a phone number big enough to read from a passing car.
  • Check your council's rules on signs on the footpath and nature strip, and your state's rules on what must appear on real estate advertising.
  • Plan the directional route: walk or drive from the nearest main road and count every turn.

The week of the first open home

  • One directional sign for every turn on the route, plus one at the corner of the street. Most homes need six to ten.
  • An A-frame for the footpath with "Open home today" and the inspection time.
  • Cable ties, string and a roll of tape in the car for fences, poles and star pickets.

On the day

  • Directional signs out an hour before the first inspection, starting from the main road.
  • The A-frame on the footpath where buyers park, facing the traffic.
  • Signs back in the car after the last inspection: many councils do not allow directional signs left out overnight.

For an auction

  • A 2 x 1m or 3 x 1m PVC banner on the front fence with the auction date, up for the whole campaign.
  • On the day, a pull-up banner beside the auctioneer so the agency is in every photo of the result.

What each sign costs

These are order totals, not prices per sign, for 3mm corflute printed on one side with eyelets in each corner.

Sign 1 5 10 20
For sale board, 600 x 900mm $41 $101 $143 $236
Directional sign, 450 x 600mm $41 $63 $100 $182
Large board, 900 x 1200mm $41 $167 $271 $468

An A1 corflute A-frame, printed both sides and folded flat for the boot, is $88. A 2 x 1m PVC banner with eyelets every 500mm is $85, and a 3 x 1m banner is $117. Delivered to Brisbane 4000, ten directional signs are $129.

The signs as one kit

Buying the signs together costs less than buying them one at a time, because they travel as one delivery and are printed as one job. This is our Open Home Sign Kit as it opens on its page, with every figure live:

Open Home Sign Kit: live price, delivered to 4000
Item On its own In the pack
5 corflute signs (600 x 900mm, 3mm corflute, single sided, eyelets (4 corners)) $101 $96
10 directional signs (450 x 600mm, 3mm corflute, single sided, eyelets (4 corners)) $100 $95
1 A-frame sign (594 x 841mm (A1, each side), 3mm corflute, double sided, folding corflute A-frame (flat packed)) $88 $88
1 PVC banner (2000 x 1000mm, PVC vinyl, single sided, eyelets, all sides (500mm spacing)) $85 $83
Delivery to 4000 $140 $125
Total, no GST charged $514 $487

The pack saves $27 on buying the items one at a time. Every item can be changed on the Open Home Sign Kit page before you add it to your basket.

You can change any item in the kit before you add it to your basket: more or fewer signs, the 900 x 1200mm board, double-sided signs, a metal A-frame or a longer banner.

How many directional signs do you need?

Count the turns. A buyer coming from the nearest main road needs a sign at every turn, one on the corner of your street and one at the driveway if the house is hard to spot. A house one turn off a main road may need four; a home deep in an estate may need twelve. Ten covers most listings, and spares come in handy when a sign goes missing.

If you want arrows that point both ways, order half the signs with a left arrow and half with a right arrow as two designs. Leaving the arrow off and writing on the sign looks unprofessional from a moving car.

Sizes and materials

Corflute is fluted plastic board: light, weatherproof and easy to cable tie to a fence or star picket. Our signs are 3mm corflute, the usual thickness for real estate signs. 5mm board is stiffer and is used for the inserts of our metal A-frame, which suits agencies that run open homes every weekend. See 3mm or 5mm corflute for the difference.

600 x 900mm is the standard front fence board. 900 x 1200mm suits busy roads and big blocks. 450 x 600mm is right for directional signs: big enough to read, small enough to carry ten.

When to order

Corflute signs are dispatched 2 to 6 business days after your artwork is approved, then delivered by courier. Order the week before the listing goes live, which leaves time to approve the proof and for delivery to your office. Keep a stock of directional and open home A-frame signs without property details, so you only reorder the for sale board for each new listing.

Rules to check

Councils set the rules for signs on footpaths, nature strips and poles, including size, how many and how long they can stay up, and some ban directional signs on main roads. Your state's fair trading or consumer affairs office sets what real estate advertising must show, such as the agency name and licence details. Check both before you print. Our council rules guide explains where to look.
